Grumman F4F Wildcat
The F4F Wildcat was the first monoplane in a series of carrier-based fighter aircraft produced by the Grumman Aircraft Company called the "cat" series. The Wildcat retained some attributes from its predecessors including landing gear that retracted into the fuselage without a covering panel. Models used by the American services were armed with six .50 calibre machine guns. Grumman acted quickly to increase the power of the engine with every modification. As a result, some pilots achieved great success in the fighter. Case in point: Joe Foss shot down 26 enemy aircraft in a Wildcat.
