North American P-51D Mustang
Among the many improvements to the P-51 Mustang, the most significant was the addition of the bubble canopy.
The accompanying modification to the fuselage improved rearward visibility as well. The D model had two additional
.50 calibre machine guns. A thicker wing cross-section allowed the machine guns to be mounted differently, which alleviated
a chronic problem with jammed or frozen loading chutes experienced in earlier model Mustangs.
