Supermarine Spitfire Vs of the Royal Air Force's Desert Air Force intercept German Bf-109s over North Africa. The Spitfire in the foreground is piloted by Squadron Commander Lance Wade, an American flying with the RAF. Wade would go on to achieve a most impressive record destroying 25 enemy aircraft. Eventually promoted to the rank of Wing Commander, Wade died in a flying accident in Italy in 1945.
